SAMMY MILLER MBE: I met Sammy for the first time at the Museum, soon after the Isle of Man TT2011. Approachable, a thorough gentleman. This page is devoted to an overview of Sammy's achievements in motorcycle competition and my records of meeting the great man. SAMUEL (Sammy) HAMILTON MILLER: Awarded an MBE in 2009 for Services to Motorcycle Heritage, Sammy had a magnificent career in Road Racing and particularly Trials, the following is a brief overview of Sammy Miller's achievements in motorcycle competition:
I took this image of just one of the many displays of Sammy's trophies in the Museum, incredible.
IN THE MUSEUM: I asked Sammy if I could take his picture, no problem, then of course his Assistant took this picture for me, marvellous. Sammy and Staff, so accommodating, a wonderful memento of my visit.
THE AJS V-FOUR, SAMMY AND DEEJAY51: I introduced myself to Sammy when I first met him, some four hours later he literally yelled my Christian name to come and give him a hand, I thought, surely someone in the Museum has an identical name to mine. No, he meant me, I helped Sammy lift the incredibly heavy AJS off it's high display stand and then Sammy allowed me to hold the motorcycle whilst he retrieved a rear stand. Then with his Assistant they started the bike and Sammy went for a very brisk ride around the Museum forecourt. Stoked, I'm still stoked! The motorcycle is covered in detail on my webpage devoted to the Miller Museum AJS brand, suffice to state that it is a 1939 AJS with a V-Four 500cc engine, supercharged, water cooled with four into four exhausts. It sounded great and it was such a compact engine design, just rechecking that date again, 1939! I simply have to wonder why the British Motorcycle Industry did not use this type of technology, in their post war production machinery?
