HONDA HALL CARS: The Twin Ring racing circuit at Motegi includes a somewhat plain looking building called the 'Honda Collection Hall'. The contents, truly magnificent, the car exhibits cover the full spectrum of Honda's achievements in car racing including Formula 1 and a vast array of production machinery. PRODUCTION CARS: A selection of some of Honda's vast array of Production Cars on display at the Museum. 1963: THE S500 SPORTS CAR - HONDA'S FIRST PRODUCTION CAR: The first indication of Honda's Sports car intentions. The S500 was Honda's first venture into passenger car production. The car was powered by a 531cc DOHC water cooled in-line four cylinder, four carburettor engine which produced 44PS @ 8,000rpm, the drive to the rear axle was by chain and the car had a maximum speed of 130kmh.
1965~1966: THE S600 COUPE AND S800 ROADSTER: These cars evolved from the S500 Series, the images include the S600 Coupe in red and the S800 Roadster in yellow. The S600 Coupe incorporated a hard top and rear hatch, it was powered by a 606cc DOHC water cooled in-line four cylinder engine which produced 57PS @ 8,500rpm, the drive to the rear axle was by chain and the car had a maximum speed of 145kmh. The subsequent S800 Roadster was developed to satisfy consumer demands for more performance, the car was powered by a 791cc DOHC water cooled in-line four cylinder engine which produced 70PS @ 8,000rpm, the chain drive system was replaced by a rigid rear axle drive on later models. The car had a maximum speed of 160kmh, hence the S800 was Honda's first 100mph car.
1967: THE N360 MINICAR: The first Honda front wheel drive 'Minicar', the N360 incorporated a monocoque body and a motorcycle-sourced engine which offered good economy and performance. The engine was a 354cc OHC twin, air cooled which produced 31PS @ 8,500rpm.
1983: BALLADE SPORTS CR-X: A light weight sporting car powered by a 1,488cc OHC four cylinder engine with a CVCC three valve head arrangement and PGM-FI programmable fuel injection. The engine produced 110PS @ 5,800rpm
1994: NSX-R: A marvellous car from Honda, the NSX Series proved that a high performance exotic car does not need an equally high level of maintenance and inherent unreliability. The NSX incorporated a light weight aluminium body and a mid-mounted V6 engine for near perfect weight distribution. The NSX-R was a limited edition version of the NSX, differences included lighter weight and improved engine performance. The NSX-R was powered by a 2,977cc DOHC V6, incorporating a 4 valve head and VTEC. The engine produced 280PS @ 7,300rpm.
