WSBK 2011 RACES:
Phillip Island once again staged two highly competitive
races to start the WSBK Championship for 2011. Given that the official works
entries from Ducati are no longer competing, the observer might discount
their performance, someone forgot to tell Carlos Checa however, the #7:
Althea Racing Ducati team won both races convincingly.
THE 21st ANNIVERSARY & WSBK GRID GIRLS:
Phillip Island celebrated the 21st anniversary of the World
Superbike Championship at the circuit, the 'hand written' note at the base of
the cake reads: 'FIM Superbike World Championship 1990-2011 Phillip Island
Circuit, Australia'.

RACE 1 - CHEQUERED FLAG AND ROSTRUM:
Carlos Checa and the Althea Ducati proved totally dominant in the
first race of 2011, Max Biaggi tried to close the gap but Carlos appeared to be
riding well within the capabilities of his motorcycle. Carlos won the race by
some four seconds from Max and third was a surprise, Leon Haslam on his first
ever ride for BMW Motorrad Motorsport claimed the final position on the podium
some six seconds astern of Max.
There were some disappointing performances,
Ayrton Badovini finished some thirty six seconds behind Checa in 14th place and
Ruben Xaus finished some forty two seconds behind Checa in 16th place.
