WACO, TEXAS: Waco is centrally located between Austin and Dallas, Texas. The city was founded in 1849 by the Huaco Indians, a tribe that inhabited the area of modern downtown Waco and the city is located along the Brazos River. Waco was the birthplace of the Dr Pepper and major tourist attractions include the Waco Suspension Bridge, the Washington Avenue Bridge, Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum and the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.

THE WACO SUSPENSION BRIDGE: Opened on the 7th January 1870 as a Toll Bridge, the bridge was the first to span the Brazos River, in fact the span of 475 feet was the longest suspension bridge span in the world at the time. In 1889 the Bridge was purchased by McLennan County and became a free public thoroughfare.

COMMEMORATING 'GOING UP THE CHISHOLM TRAIL': During my visit the City was installing various figurines to commemorate the 'Chisholm Trail - Cattle Drives' that 'Crossed the Brazos at Waco'.

THE WASHINGTON AVENUE BRIDGE: The Washington Avenue Bridge which is located only metres from the Waco Suspension Bridge offers modern vehicular access across the Brazos River. The Bridge was opened in 1901.

THE MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. PARK: The portion of the Park I photographed here is located adjacent the entry to the Washington Avenue Bridge.

MISCELLANEOUS: Selected images from my brief trip to Waco.
