The Tales of Robin Hood and the conquest of the Vikings both inspire and intrigue me. On the one hand Robin is effectively an Outlaw
in his homeland forced to stand against an oppressive Sheriff for the common
folk, conversely the Vikings plundered and took whatever they wanted, all good
stuff!!
I have now visited the City of Nottingham, Sherwood Forest and
the Isle of Man, specifically the 'House of Manannan' and the 'Viking Gravesite'
near Castletown, I hope the following records of my journeys are of interest....
Robin Hood and
Sherwood Forest:
NOTTINGHAM:
The Nottingham of today is a very
different place to what I imagined, suffice to say the City is a thriving business centre. Luckily the
Nottingham Castle, beautiful grounds and a magnificent statue of Robin are
proudly displayed.
Included under Nottingham are some images
from Creswell Crags, Worksop. Specifically the 'Robin Hood Cave'
The 'clickable' image is a 'floral' Robin
Hood statue located within the grounds of Nottingham Castle. |

SHERWOOD
FOREST:
I have visited Sherwood twice, my second visit in
2009 was timed to coincide with the 25th Anniversary of the Robin Hood
Festival.
The 'clickable' image is from the 25th
Anniversary Falconry Display, eek. |

The Vikings:
THE HOUSE
OF MANANNAN:
The House of Manannan is located at Peel
on the Isle of Man.
The 'clickable' image is a Viking Statue,
menacingly placed 'outside' the building. |

VIKING GRAVESITE,
ISLE OF MAN:
A Viking Gravesite is preserved at Chapel
Hill on the Isle of Man.
The 'clickable' image is a model located
in the Manx Museum displaying a representation of the excavation at the gravesite
where a longboat, artefacts etc. were discovered. |
