AUSTRALIAN ROAD RACING: I have enjoyed watching and photographing Australian Road
Racing Events since 1967, ouch! I hope the following events and rider's careers bring back some
memories to those that were there and are of interest to all......
Please click on the heading or associated image to be taken to
the dedicated page covering the event.....
Le Minz 24 HR
SCOOTERTHON, 2012:
The seventh running of the Le Minz 24 Hour
Scooterthon, sponsored by INSURE MY RIDE, hereinafter referred to as 'IMR', was held on the Gold Coast, Queensland in December, 2012. The endurance
test (race) was open to Scooters with a maximum capacity of 50cc and there were two
classes, stock and modified.

SCOOTERTHON, 2011:
The sixth running of the Le Minz 24 Hour
Scooterthon was held on the Gold Coast Queensland in December, 2011. The endurance
race was open to Scooters with a maximum capacity of 50cc and there were two
classes, stock and modified.
There was also the matter of a Guinness Book of Records attempt!
The 'clickable' image opposite depicts 'Brownie' having just
regained the World Record and Guinness Book of Records entry for the
furthest distance travelled on a Scooter in twenty four hours: 1,189.685 kilometres!

PHILLIP
ISLAND EIGHT HOUR, 2011:
The inaugural Australian Endurance
Championship, held over eight hours at the Phillip Island Circuit. The event
was modelled on the famous Suzuka Eight Hour race and the Organisers are
hopeful of attracting International Teams as the race gains recognition.

BARRY
SHEENE FESTIVAL of SPEED, EASTERN CREEK, 2011:
The 6th Anniversary of the Barry
Sheene FOS witnessed the first running of the Trans Tasman
Challenge at Eastern Creek. There was a wide variety of historic racing
classes including the
Barry Sheene Memorial Race and the
Paul Dobbs Memorial F750 race.
Incredibly, it was the Sidecar
activities that captured my imagination, a contingent of New Zealand Sidecar
racers only added to the spectacle!

INTERN'. ISLAND CLASSIC, PI, 2011:
Irish Champion Ryan Farquhar,
Isle of Man TT winner Cam Donald, MotoGP star Jeremy McWilliams, World
Endurance Champions Steve Martin and Warwick Nowland, two times Australian
Superbike Champion Malcolm Campbell and multiple Australian Champion Robbie
Phillis indicated the level of riding talent entered in the Tahbilk
International Challenge between Australia, the United Kingdom and the
Anzacs/World 13.
There were 44 races and 270
listed rider entries on the program, truly a huge event on the Australian
motorcycling calendar.

SIX HOUR GALLERIES, 1970~2010:
In my opinion the greatest annual Road Racing event in
Australia, the Castrol Six Hour grew to major importance throughout the
seventies and into the early eighties. Sadly it all ended in 1987. In 2009
the concept was reinvented with Bel-Ray as the naming sponsor. The initial race
was held at Oran Park and the subsequent race was held at Phillip Island!

COCA
COLA 800 - 1980:
A distance rather than timed event at Sydney's Oran Park, allowing
the entry of standard, modified and works machinery. I believe the idea was a 'take off' of the Six Hour
recipe with more liberal entry rules. A wide variety of machinery and some
of Australia's best riders competed.

SURFERS
RACEWAY - 1978:
Surfers Paradise International Raceway
located just behind the golden beaches of Surfers is sadly long gone,
replaced by the urban sprawl of townhouses, golf links, whatever. It was a
great race circuit and drag strip! The 'clickable' image opposite depicts
Warren Willing.

|
LAKESIDE,
QUEENSLAND - 1976~'78:
Lakeside is a great circuit, located just north of Brisbane,
Queensland,
adjacent Lake Kurwongbah. The circuit fell into disrepair for many years
and has now been resealed, hosting a wide variety of motorsport events.
Gregg Hansford, Ray Quincey, Murray and Geoff Sayle, Warren
Willing, Jim
Budd, Vaughan Coburn, Rick
Perry, John Warrian, Stan Bayliss, Steve Bayliss and Alex Campbell to name a few had some
great races there. The 'clickable' image opposite depicts
Gregg Hansford with Neville Doyle.

LAVERTON TT -
1976:
A real gamble to attract International
Riders to a converted Australian Airbase in Melbourne (for the day), it nearly
worked. Italian Superstar Giacomo Agostini (Ago), was very competitive but Ken Blake 'won' the Feature Race on the
then new Suzuki 500!! An even more competitive event
was the Unlimited between Gregg Hansford and Pat Hennen.

GREAT
AUSSIE RIDERS:
I am covering the
career and my imagery of Great Aussie Riders that are sadly no
longer with us.
Initially I am developing dedicated pages covering the
Motorcycling Careers of Bryan Hindle, Kenny Blake and Gregg Hansford.
