THE HANBIDGE'S: In honour of my late father, mother and brother I have collated the following images of my direct family, as I type this it has been over twenty five years since their departure from this earth, may they all rest in peace. I have deliberately used very few actual names and place names here due to the public nature of the internet. Subsequent pages will cover my life, my marriage and modern times. DAD'S PARENTS: Dad's parents owned a Dairy Farm in Eire.
DAD'S CYCLING DAYS: Dad was a keen cyclist, he is wearing a white outfit here with one of his riding mates. He loved the Sturmey Archer hub gear systems and apparently fiddled with motorcycles. Sadly he never spoke much about his cycling or motorcycling endeavours but Mum assured me he had ridden bicycles for years, touring all over Ireland. I soon learnt about his knowledge and ability with bicycles, incredibly when I purchased my first motorcycle, (Honda CB175), I was somewhat hesitant learning to ride, Dad just took over one day, rode off into the distance, all second nature to him, even though the gearshift and rear brake pedal were transposed. Then there was the matter of how to repair a bicycle inner tube. Dad's method was a beauty, locate the puncture, clean it up, put the glue around the hole and set it alight, blow it out and quickly apply the patch, wow that worked every time. This cycling connection was probably the catalyst for my developing my bicycles triple gear shift systems and the two wheel interest ultimately led to my first motorcycle.
IMAGES OF MY DAD: Very fit, Dad loved the Morris Cowley Bullnose and similar cars of the day, he even spoke very highly of Triumph Motorcycles, once!
DAD'S BROTHERS AND SISTERS: A huge family, most of the family left the Farm in their early years as there was limited work for them. Harry emigrated to Australia, it was probably the reason Dad ultimately made the decision to move the family to Australia. Harry and his family were of great assistance to all throughout the first year in Australia.
DAD AND MUM - WEDDING DAY: A wonderful keepsake, although Mum was never happy with the picture, it was actually a black and white photograph that had been coloured, she always insisted her Wedding Outfit was 'not that colour'.
DAD AND MUM - WEDDING DAY AND POST WEDDING IMAGES:
THE EARLY IMAGES OF MY MOTHER IN EIRE AND DAD'S PARENTS, BROTHER AND SISTER:
MY DAD, A MEMBER OF THE ULSTER 'B SPECIALS': I have no details of Dad's involvement in the 'Specials', just these images. I do know that Dad had magnificent eyesight and reflexes.
