WSBK Phillip Island - February 2010:
BMW increasing their commitment to WSBK, that was more than
enough enticement to ensure my return to 'PI' for the first WSBK event of 2010.
Troy Corser, Ruben Xaus, Andrew Pitt and Roland Resch piloted the BMW S1000RR's
with promising results. After four years in MotoGP, Chris Vermeulen moved
across to Superbikes and rode a Factory Kawasaki ZX10R with new team mate Tom
Sykes.
Leon Haslam moved to Suzuki, Carlos Checa to Ducati and
James Toseland moved across to Superbikes, campaigning a Yamaha R1.

THE PADDOCK
SHOW:
Super Friday, a fantastic idea, the Paddock Show in the
Yamaha Tent was open to all spectators and featured a nominally ten minute
question and answer session from most of the WSBK Riders and a special
appearance at the end by Troy Bayliss. The 'clickable' image
depicts an extremely relaxed Troy Corser fielding questions from both the
media and spectators, tremendous stuff. |

THE PIT WALKS:
The very popular pit walks were on again on both
Saturday and Sunday and most teams had their garage doors 'open' allowing
access for photography, posters etc. The 'clickable' image
depicts the rear of the Carlos Checa, Althea Racing Ducati 1198R, this was
the view all the other competitors had at the conclusion of Race 2. |

THE WSBK RACES:
Four one thousandths of a second, Race 1 set a new
benchmark for close finishes in WSBK, on his first outing with the Team
Suzuki Alstare Suzuki GSX-R 1000, Leon Haslam claimed his first victory in
WSBK from Michel Fabrizio on the works Ducati 1198 F10 by the barest of
margins. The 'clickable' image
depicts Leon Haslam exiting turn 10 on the GSX-R. |

THE
SUPERBIKE EXPO:
Another great show with many new motorcycles on display
for the first time, including the Honda VFR1200F shaftie, the Yamaha 1200
Super Tenere and the Ducati Multistrada 1200. The 'clickable' image
depicts the new Honda VFR1200F fitted with the optional matching Panniers
and Top Box. |
